Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas from Leeds LDYS!

Tuesday 18 December 2007

Congratulations

Leeds LDYS congratulates Nick Clegg MP on becoming the leader of the Liberal Democrats.

I'm sure that Nick Clegg will uphold the liberal values for which our party stands and lead us onto bigger and better things. It's also great to have an MP from Yorkshire as the leader of the party.

Homophobia is Gay!

On Monday the LUU Liberal Democrats and Leeds LDYS launched our campaign to stop homophobic bullying. Ed Davey MP came to Leeds Uni to help with the launch. After a well-attended Q&A in the Old Bar, Ed as well as members of Leeds LDYS launched the campaign with a photo on the Parkinson steps.

Over the next few months a number of events will be going on around the university to do with the campaign. After giving out over 2000 "homophobia is gay" badges during freshers week and having many more signatures for our petition the campaign has got off to a great start. With an article, opinion peice and editorial in Leeds Student today this campaign has really captured students imagination and will hopefully lead to something being achieved on this issue.

Look out for us on campus over the next few months.

STOP HOMOPHOBIC BULLYING NOW!

New Website

Hello and welcome to the new website/blog of Leeds LDYS.

Our beliefs:

The Liberal Democrats exist to build and safeguard a fair, free and open society, in which we seek to balance the fundamental values of liberty, equality and community, and in which no-one shall be enslaved by poverty, ignorance or conformity. We champion the freedom, dignity and well-being of individuals, we acknowledge and respect their right to freedom of conscience and their right to develop their talents to the full. We aim to disperse power, to foster diversity and to nurture creativity. We believe that the role of the state is to enable all citizens to attain these ideals, to contribute fully to their communities and to take part in the decisions which affect their lives.

We are mainly based within Leeds University Union but represent all young members of the Lib Dems in the eight Leeds constituencies.

A few things to point out about the website. There is a calendar at the bottom of the page where you can see what is going on. All other details are on the right hand bar. If there is anything else you would like to see please let us know.

Don't hesitate to get in touch!
